Last week, the WCEE 2024 took place in Milan, with over 4,000 earthquake engineering specialists from around the world gathered to present and discuss their work. It was a unique experience for RESISK to share research activities and services with such a wide audience.
RESISK, through its co-founders, was involved in the organisation of 3 technical sessions:
SEISMIC PERFORMANCE OF INFILLED BUILDINGS - RECENT DEVELOPMENTS AND FUTURE CHALLENGES
RISK-BASED ASSESSMENT METHODS AND RETROFITTING STRATEGIES: SYNERGIES BETWEEN SEISMIC, ENERGY AND ENVIRONMENTAL BEHAVIOUR
MULTI-HAZARD RISK ASSESSMENT OF BUILDINGS AND BRIDGES
and in the presentation of 9 research studies, always with a view to effective practical implementation:
An integrated regional prioritisation framework for seismic and energy-efficiency performance upgrading of residential buildings;
Implications of masonry infills variability on the seismic risk assessment of existing RC buildings;
Development of a web-based bridge rating and management tool;
An index-based methodology for multi-hazard risk assessment of bridge portfolios;
A quantitative risk-based method for priority assessment of bridges to seismic and traffic hazards;
A simplified approach for seismic and energy performance upgrading of existing buildings;
Corrosion modelling strategy impact on expected seismic losses for RC bridges - a case-study;
Explicit modelling of structural collapse through the applied element method (AEM);
Exploring the discrete element modelling approach for safety assessment of prestressed concrete bridges;
A heartfelt thank you to the organisers for this insightful experience.
